Accessibility Statement

Laindon Community Centre (Registered Charity No. 1196020) is committed to making its website accessible to as many people as possible, in line with the European Accessibility Act and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. We want everyone — including people who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, or who navigate using only a keyboard — to be able to book our facilities, use the gym sign-up, and find information about the centre.

How accessible this website is

We have designed and built this site with accessibility in mind. In particular:

  • you can move through the site using a keyboard alone, and a “Skip to main content” link lets you bypass the navigation;
  • the site works in both light and dark modes and we aim for sufficient colour contrast in each;
  • text can be resized and the layout adapts to phones, tablets and desktops;
  • images that convey meaning have text alternatives, and form fields have labels.

We know some parts may not yet be fully accessible — for example, some complex interactive areas (such as the calendar and point-of-sale screens, which are mainly used by staff) and some older documents. We are working to improve these.

Enforcement procedure

We want to put things right, so please contact us first and give us the chance to help. If you have raised a problem with us and are not satisfied with our response, you can escalate it:

  • In the UK, the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing accessibility requirements. You can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS), which handles enquiries and complaints on its behalf.
  • If you are contacting us from within the European Union, each EU member state has designated a national authority that enforces the European Accessibility Act. You may raise the matter with the relevant authority in your country.

Technical information about this website's accessibility

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA. It is partially conformant: most of the site meets the standard, but some content or features may not yet fully meet every criterion. We review the site regularly and fix issues as we find them.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We test the public-facing pages against automated accessibility checks and act on the issues they raise, and we take account of feedback from people who use the site. Accessibility is considered when we add new features. If you report a problem, we will treat it as a priority to fix.
